This pathway explores the principles of data protection and how they operate in practice. For example, how a data subjects consent to processing data is needed, or how a firm can also rely on one of the other legal bases for processing personal data. The pathway also looks at the rights data subjects have, for example amongst others, the right to object or restrict processing. Also examined is the reporting of data breaches. Finally, the pathway look at how firms should have practices and tools in place to demonstrate that they operate within sound accountability and governance procedures with regard to data protection.
This course is suitable for all staff working in activities regulated by the FCA (e.g. banking, lending, insurance, financial services, claims management companies) and requires no previous regulatory knowledge or experience.
When you've completed all of the activities in this pathway, you should be able to:</p><p>- explain the framework of seven core principles on which data protection regulation is based and explain how data subjects must be made aware of how their data is to be used and give consent for this to happen.
- confidently get consent to process personal data or rely on one of the other legal bases for processing personal data, plus comply with the rights data subjects have and report data breaches correctly.
- outline the practices and tools firms have in place to demonstrate that they operate within sound accountability and governance procedures with regard to data protection.
